Indoor track and field has solid showing at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio – Back in action for the first time after the holidays, the Otterbein University indoor track and field teams had excellent showings at the Wilf Schnier Alumni Classic, hosted by Capital University. There were no team scores in the event, but many Cardinals finished inside the top five in their respective events. 

The Cardinals saw three compete in the pole vault, going 4-5-6 with Mimi Wegener (3.15m), Brianne Miller (3.15m) and Emmy Caton (2.85m). On the men's side, freshman Connor Reifenberger was the second DIII athlete with a 4.05m mark. Cinjin Gibson and Brady Williams finished clearing 3.60m, finishing tied for fourth. In the men's weight throw, sophomore Brody Odson was fifth with a toss of 10.74m, good for a personal best.

Sophomore Anastasia Smith tossed a 14.22m in the weight throw to come in sixth and Amelia Dailey followed in seventh with a 13.86m. Later in the day, Smith won the shot put with a throw of 12.83m, as sophomore Kendra Detillion was fifth with a 11.21m. Freshman Lisbon James was fifth in the men's event, throwing a 12.90m. 

With a leap of 5.06m, freshman Maria Morsch won the long jump, as Madison Gray (4.74m, PR) and Aniju Ewell (4.13m) took third and fifth. Gabe Scialdone turned in a mark of 5.85m to place second and Wyatt Slack's 5.74m jump was good for third on the men's side. In the women's triple jump, Otterbein finished 2-3-4, led by Gray's runner-up finish (9.45m). Sophomores Carlisha Bell (9.33m) and Joey Durham (9.20m) followed. In the high jump, Scialdone followed with a leap of 1.92m. 

Izaac Swope represented Otterbein in the 60m hurdles, clocking an 8.42 to kickoff the running events. With a time of 8.49, Natalie Nichols placed third in the 60m dash, as Bell and Macy Etienne were fourth and fifth. Senior Rachel Bollo's time of 1:04.35 won the 400m dash, seeing Mallory Bostick just behind with a 1:04.89. Allie Mongold clocked a personal best 1:07.90 to take third. In the men's event, the Cardinals also went 1-2-3, led by Jack Van Fossen's 52.83. Marquez Whitehead was second (52.94) as Ares Pasion placed third.

Otterbein saw four women place in the top five in the mile, with Kate Thormeier's 5:35.40 good for second. Rachel Ziel, Kierstin Knell and Ella Degenhard all were within 16 seconds of Thormeier. Running a PR of 4:36.71 was Corey Rafferty, taking third in the men's mile. Sophomore Tucker See claimed fourth after a 4:40.21. Jonny Powers was the lone Cardinal in the 500m dash, finishing second and running a personal best (1:10.33). 

In the 4x200m relay, the women's team of Nichols, Morsch, Mongold and Etienne was second, running a 1:57.66. The men's team also claimed second with a time of 1:34.29. The squad was made up of Swope, Quintin Conrad, Van Fossen and Pasion. Bostick, Bollo and Etienne all finished inside the top five in the 200m dash, with Bostick claiming second after a race of 28.77.

Competing in the 1000m run, Abby Kobs was second (3:22.84), while Gigi Leiter and Magi Hallabrin took third and fourth. Mitch Green won the men's race with a 2:36.23. Also finishing inside the top five were Gavin Kelly in third and Vince Catalano in fourth. David Hartman won the 3000m run, clocking a 9:09.93. Brady Pugh took second (9:10.23) and Spencer Grace was fifth (9:58.94).

Ending the night, the women's 4x400m relay team of Bollo, Hallabrin, Ziel and Kobs ran a 4:39.92 to take second. The men's team of Conrad, Whitehead, Hartley and Catalano won by .18 seconds, running a 3:35.70. 

After wrapping up Friday, some members of the team will be in action on Saturday at the Marshall Alumni Classic.
