Cardinals turn in multiple personal bests in home meet

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Saturday, the Otterbein University indoor track and field teams excelled in their first home meet of the season. Plenty of personal bests stacked up, as the Cardinals continued to improve early in the indoor season. 

Charlie Dolliver won the high jump with a leap of 1.57m, setting a new PR. Addy Westbrooks followed as the runner-up with a 1.50m. In the men's event, junior Gabe Scialdone tied for first, clearing 1.90m. Freshman Mimi Wegener won the pole vault with a personal best mark of 3.34m. Otterbein also won the men's event, as Joe Hill finished with a 4.40m mark. In third was freshman Connor Reifenberger, who cleared 4.20m, a new PR.

Janaya Gore took third in the long jump (4.65m), while Westbrooks was just behind in fourth (4.50m). In the men's long jump, Richmond Honkpo won with a mark of 7.09m and Jaret Harting placed second with a leap of 6.74m. Sophomore Wyatt Slack turned in a fourth place showing with a 5.96m jump. In the women's triple jump, Carlisha Bell (second, 9.27m) and Joey Durham (third, 9.18m) finished in the top three for the Cardinals. Honkpo went on to complete the sweep of horizontal jumps, winning the triple jump with a 13.98m. Harting was the runner-up, recording a mark of 12.35m.

Capping off field events, Anastasia Smith won both the shot put (13.08m) and weight throw (13.70m), recording a new PR in the shot put. Kendra Detillion (second, 11.55m), Landry Driskel (third, 10.96m) and Keerstin Farson-Mantor (fourth, 9.85m, PR) all competed in the shot put for Otterbein. Sophomore Noah Gaydos won the men's event with a toss of 13.72m. Following Smith in the weight throw was Amelia Dailey taking third with a toss of 12.04m, as Detillion placed fourth (11.89m) and Driskel finished fifth (11.58m). With a throw of 11.69m, sophomore Brody Odson turned in a new personal best and took third.

In the mile, freshman Ollie Smith won with a PR race of 5:33.67 to start the clean sweep of the mile for the Cardinals. On the men's side, Caleb Rafferty also turned in a PR of 4:30.47, which won him the event with Gavin Kelly just behind in second (4:31.40).

Otterbein went 1-2-3 in the men's 60m hurdles, with junior Izaac Swope winning in 8.23 and a new PR. Cam Smart was second (8.74) and Logan Smith placed third (8.95). In the 60m dash, Allison Mongold was fifth, racing a 8.85 for a personal best. Logan Smith later went on to win the 400m, clocking a 52.49. Fellow freshman Peyton Smith was third with a personal best time of 53.62 and Grant Hartley took fourth narrowly with a 53.72 (PR).

Senior Rachel Bollo's time of 1:25.39 won her the 500m run with Mongold just behind in second (1:29.47, PR). With a time of 1:08.62, Marquez Whitehead won the men's race, seeing Quintin Conrad (1:11.55, PR) and Cam Smart (1:13.44) place third and fourth. In the 800m run, freshman Gigi Leiter ran to a first place finish with a PR of 2:34.38. The Cardinals went 1-2 in the men's event, as Ian Chapman's new PR time of 2:01.90 won the event. Freshman Vince Catalano ran a 2:02.30 to take second and clock a personal best time.

In the 1000m, sophomore Laurie Baughman led the way, winning with a PR time of 3:25.11, while Kylie Brandt was second (3:32.87, PR). The men finished 2-3-4, led by a PR time of 2:48.61 from Brady Williams. Alec Spangler was third with a race of 2:49.17 (PR), while Easton Miller placed fourth (2:56.42, PR). 

Peyton Smith clocked a PR of 23.39 in the 200m to finish second, as Jack Van Fossen's time of 23.64 was good for third. Freshman Kate Thormeier was second in the 3000m (10:55.92, PR) while Rachel Ziel placed fourth (11:12.47, PR). Senior David Hartman was third overall in the men's race (8:56.91, PR) and Corey Rafferty was fourth (8:59.67, PR).

Rounding out the day, both 4x400m teams took second. The women's quarter of Bollo, Leiter, Mallory Bostick and Mongold clocked a 4:30.21. The men's squad of Whitehead, Van Fossen, Conrad and Hartley ran a 3:32.08. 

The teams travel to Muskingum University next weekend to compete in New Concord.
