Otterbein reels in Muskies for ninth straight victory

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Another strong showing by the Otterbein University men's basketball team saw the Cardinals win their ninth straight contest in a 78-62 decision at Muskingum University. Jarius Jones led all players with 19 points on a 9 of 15 shooting effort, his third straight game in double figures, adding four steals.

Freshman Dominic Theado's impressive season continued, scoring 15 points, going 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Julian Heckman tallied 11 points, four assists and three steals, while Chase Garito was solid in an eight point, nine rebound outing.

Neither team was truly able to seize momentum in the early goings, with no team leading by more than eight points. With 7:16 remaining in the first half, a three from Micah Germany fueled a 15-6 run for the Cardinals to lead 41-26 at the break. Germany's three was followed by five Cardinal points from Theado, before Troy Scowden added a bucket. Jones scored the final five points of the opening half for a 15-point advantage for the visitors.

Out of the half, Muskingum slowly cut into the Otterbein lead. After the Muskies closed the gap to make it a six point game, the Cardinals struck for another big run with Reece Huber playing a big part on both ends of the floor. Midway through the second half, Otterbein held a comfortable 20-point lead.

Carter Piatt-Brown led all players with five assists, as Huber recorded four. Piatt-Brown secured a career-high nine rebounds in the win.

Otterbein moves to 14-2 on the season and 6-1 in the OAC. The Cardinals will head to Wilmington College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Quakers.
