Dolan's 3-0 day leads Cardinals on Senior Day

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Hosting the Ohio Athletic Conference quad, the Otterbein University men's wrestling team competed against Mount Union, Heidelberg and No. 15 Baldwin Wallace. Sophomore Luke Dolan was a perfect 3-0 as Otterbein as a team went 0-3.

Prior to the matches, the Cardinals celebrated its senior class of Matthew Bachie, Owen Crabtree, Logan Cormell, Caiden Hooks, Carter Mottley, Zach Orseno, Andrew Sas, Sam Wegesin and Austin Winn.

Mount Union 35 Otterbein 15

After Mount Union won the first three bouts with bonus points, Otterbein put together back to back wins at 149 and 157. On his Senior Day, Zach Orseno trailed 3-2 early in his bout, but was able to pin Jack DeBoe in just 1:30. Following Orseno in the next matchup, Luke Dolan's outstanding sophomore campaign continued, earning a 10-3 decision over Giovanni Duniec. The Purple Raiders went on to claim the next three weights before Karson Nail earned the final Otterbein victory of the match. The sophomore needed just 2:08 to pin Brayden McFetridge for his ninth pin of the season at 197. Entering the match, McFetridge was ranked sixth overall in the region.

The Student Princes won the first two matchups before Andrew Sas got the Cardinals on the board at 141. The senior pinned Maddox Cade in 2:02 for six Otterbein points. At 157, Dolan picked up his second victory of the day, coming via a first period fall. He pinned Sam Smith in 1:36 to cut the deficit to 15-12 midway through the match. Heidelberg went on to win four of the final five bouts, as Logan Cormell provided Otterbein its third win of the match. Cormell knocked off Austin Dipzinski in a 16-4 major decision for his 15th victory of the season.

Ending the day facing the No. 15 ranked team in the nation with four wrestlers nationally ranked, the Cardinals fell to the Yellow Jackets. Otterbein received its lone win from Dolan – another quick fall. Dolan won in 2:47 and now has 10 total pins on the season. Cormell put together a solid effort at 174, dropping a tight 4-0 decision to the No. 8 wrestler in the nation, Thomas West. 

Next weekend, the Cardinals travel to Illinois for the Pete Wilson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton. Matches will begin on Friday and roll through Saturday.
