Women’s tennis takes on East Texas Baptist

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Otterbein University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to East Texas Baptist University Tuesday morning in non-conference play.

East Texas Baptist gained an early advantage by claiming the doubles point. Breanna Ball and Raina Smith fell 6-1 at the No. 1 position to Monique Ybarra and Isabella Macquet, while the No. 2 pairing of Niya Bell and Taryn Simmers were edged 6-4 by Kristyn Dunn and Fernanda Ruiz Burkart. Caitlin Pennington and Molly Jones also battled in a close match at No. 3 doubles before falling 6-4 to Neyna Gonzalez and Alexis Stong.

The Tigers carried that momentum into singles competition to secure the match. Ball dropped a 6-1, 6-0 result to Ybarra at the top spot, while Simmers played one of the most competitive matches of the day, forcing a third-set super tiebreak before ultimately falling 11-9 after splitting the first two sets.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Bell fell 6-2, 6-1 to Macquet at No. 3 singles and Pennington dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Dunn at No. 4. Jones lost 6-1, 6-0 to Jazmyne Ford-Schartner at the No. 5 spot, while Raina Smith was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Amelia Anding to close the singles matches.
