Cardinals on wrong end of pitcher's duel

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. Falling on the wrong end of a pitcher's duel, the Otterbein baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision to The University of Olivet on Thursday evening at the Ripken Experience.

The two teams combined for just six hits, with Otterbein earning two of them. The two Cardinal hits came off the bats of Geoffrey Siess and JT Gels. Olivet broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth with a double to the fence that pushed the Comets ahead 1-0. That one run would be enough for Olivet, who allowed just six baserunners all night.

Otterbein stranded seven Comet baserunners, keeping the Cardinals within one run all evening.

Coming off a dominant outing, freshman Nick Mealey tossed 7.1 innings of one-run ball, striking out 11 while scattering three Olivet hits. Bryan Carney earned the win on the bump for Olivet.

Otterbein will face WPI on Friday for a twinbill beginning at 3:30 p.m.
