NEW ALBANY, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's tennis team came up short against John Carroll, falling 6-1 on Saturday at New Albany High School.
John Carroll set the tone early by sweeping doubles play and maintained control throughout singles competition.
The Cardinals were unable to grab the doubles point, with John Carroll earning wins at all three spots. Sophomore Daniela De Mata and junior Taryn Simmers fell 6-3 at No. 1, while junior Breanna Ball and freshman Raina Smith dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2. Sophomore Niya Bell and junior Caitlin Pennington were competitive at No. 3 before a 6-4 result.
In singles, freshman Molly Jones provided the highlight for Otterbein with a straight-set win at No. 6, 6-4, 6-3.
Simmers also pushed her match to three sets at No. 3, taking the opening set before John Carroll responded to claim the final two, including a match tiebreak.
The Blue Streaks secured victories in the remaining singles flights to close out the match.
Otterbein will be back in action Saturday, March 28 at Denison with an 11 a.m. start.
