WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Otterbein Women's Tennis honored its lone departing player on Sunday morning, recognizing junior
Caitlin Pennington as she prepares to graduate early and conclude her Cardinal career.
On the court, Otterbein battled throughout a challenging matchup with Ohio Wesleyan, highlighted by strong doubles play and a standout singles victory from sophomore
Niya Bell, before ultimately falling 6–1 in Westerville.
The Cardinals struck first in doubles thanks to a gritty performance at the No. 2 spot, where
Breanna Ball and
Raina Smith delivered a dramatic 7–6 win to secure Otterbein's lone doubles point.
Bell carried that momentum into singles, producing one of the most competitive matches of the day at No. 3. After taking the opening set 6–2, she regrouped following a second‑set push and dominated the super tiebreak 10–6 to earn Otterbein's second point.
Ball battled through long rallies at the top of the lineup, while Pennington competed at No. 4 and pushed to extend the second set before ultimately falling 6–0, 6–2.
Smith and
Molly Jones rounded out the singles lineup, each fighting through challenging matchups at the No. 6 and No. 5 positions.
Otterbein hits the courts next on Thursday, April 2nd as they host Indiana University East at 3 p.m.
