NEW ALBANY, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 win over Indiana University East on Thursday, putting together a complete performance across doubles and singles play.
The Cardinals jumped ahead early by taking the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. Junior Taryn Simmers and sophomore Niya Bell earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1, while freshman Raina Smith and junior Breanna Ball followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles court was not played due to a forfeit.
Otterbein continued to build its lead in singles, winning four matches. Ball led off with a 6-2, 6-0 result at No. 1, and Simmers added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Bell secured another point at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Smith was credited with a victory at No. 6 by forfeit.
Junior Caitlin Pennington and freshman Molly Jones rounded out the lineup at No. 4 and No. 5, each falling by 6-1, 6-3 scores.
Otterbein returns home to face Mount Union on Wednesday, April 8 at 4 p.m.
