Women's tennis rolls past Mount Union in OAC opener

WESTERVILLE – In their OAC debut this season, the Otterbein University women's tennis team rolled to a 5-2 win over the University of Mount Union.

The Purple Raiders won the doubles point, but the Cardinals stormed back to claim five of the six singles matches. Otterbein earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles courtesy of Breanna Ball and Raina Smith, but Mount Union won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. 

Junior Breanna Ball cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Cardinals. At No. 2 singles, Taryn Simmers rallied after dropping the first set, 6-4, winning the next two 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Niya Bell turned in an impressive 7-6 (5), 6-5 win at No. 3 singles for Otterbein, as Caitlin Pennignton followed with a breaker victory. Pennington won at No. 4 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. Rounding out the wins for the hosts was Molly Jones earning a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles. 

Otterbein returns to the courts on Friday, April 17 when they host Ohio Northern University for a 4 p.m. match.
