Men's tennis sweeps Roger Williams to open spring break trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – In their spring break opener, the Otterbein University men's tennis team dominated in a 7-0 victory over Roger Williams in non-conference action at the USTA National Campus.

Otterbein set the tone early in doubles play, capturing the doubles point to take an immediate 1-0 lead in the match. Jake Chilcote and Nikita Kitaev cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. The Cardinals suffered a tough 6-4 loss at No. 2 doubles, but Elivh Perez and Sanjan Shanker secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles. 

Headed into singles play with momentum, Otterbein continued its strong performance across the lineup. Shanker earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and senior Max Fickas won in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Chilcote won by a 6-3, 6-2 margin at No. 3 singles and Kitaev won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Neil Reddy battled to a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, before Zach Frederick completed the sweep with a gritty 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win in the final match.

Otterbein will continue its week in Florida with an 8 a.m. match against Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday morning.
