Wilkins Tallies Six Hits, Softball Splits in Florida Day Two

CLERMONT, Fl. — Otterbein used a decisive four‑run seventh inning to secure a 6–2 victory over Westminster College (Pa.) on Monday morning at Hancock Park before falling to Alfred University, 7-2, in the close second contest.

Otterbein 6, Westminster (Pa.) 2
Trailing 2–1 behind Westminster entering the sixth, the Cardinals tied the game when Emily Black delivered an RBI single down the right field line. Otterbein then broke the game open in the seventh, beginning with a leadoff double from Caitlin Wilkins, her third hit of the day. Rachel Miller followed with a go‑ahead RBI single, and the Cardinals capitalized on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Kaylie Eichorn to extend the lead. A double‑steal sequence allowed Emma Calkins to score the final run.

Wilkins finished 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base, while Miller added two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Eichorn posted a three‑hit, two‑RBI performance.

In the circle, Kiley King earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit. Starter Addison Yoder worked the first four frames and kept Otterbein within striking distance.

The Cardinals totaled 11 hits and six stolen bases in a well-rounded effort.

Alfred 7, Otterbein 6
Otterbein matched Alfred with 11 hits and rallied multiple times, but a sixth‑inning home run proved decisive in a 7–6 setback on Monday afternoon.

Wilkins led the Cardinals with a 3‑for‑4 performance, scoring three times and delivering an RBI triple as part of a two‑run third inning that tied the game 3–3. Otterbein later erased a 5–3 deficit in the fifth, highlighted by a two‑run single from Ella Pfaffl and an RBI infield hit from Bri Dowell to even the score at 5–5.

Alfred regained the lead in the sixth on a two‑run homer and Otterbein was unable to answer despite putting runners aboard in the final two innings. Miller added three hits, while Eichorn and Kylie Galownia each drove in a run.

Three pitchers combined for the outing, with Maggie McVicker tossing a scoreless seventh to keep the Cardinals within reach.

Otterbein moves to 2–2 on the season following the narrow loss.

The Cardinals return to the field tomorrow with games scheduled for 2:30 p.m. against Pitt-Greensburg and 4:45 p.m. against Haverford College.
