Otterbein Drops Midweek Doubleheader to Denison

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Otterbein softball came up short in a Wednesday home doubleheader against Denison, falling 6–3 and 9–1 in non‑conference evening action.

Game 1: Denison 6, Otterbein 3

Otterbein generated early pressure and produced scoring chances in four different innings, but a single big frame against the Cardinals proved costly.

Otterbein struck first in the second inning when Kameron Biederman drew a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Lexi Hart. After falling behind in the third, Otterbein answered in the fourth as Bri Dowell came home on a throwing error to trim the deficit.

The Cardinals continued to chip away in the fifth. Kayla Ferrell pinch ran following a Maggie McVicker double, and Alex Ward followed with a single to put two aboard. Dowell then delivered a fielder's‑choice RBI to bring the score to 5–3.

Otterbein put runners on in the fourth, fifth, and sixth but couldn't push across another run. McVicker doubled, Emily Black added a hit and a walk, and Dowell reached twice with an RBI. Kaycee Berentz, Kiley King, and Kara Mekulsia combined in the circle, with Mekulsia tossing a scoreless seventh.

Game 2: Denison 9, Otterbein 1

Otterbein again produced early offense but couldn't keep pace after a pair of multi‑run innings from the visiting Big Red.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first when Kaylie Eichorn singled and Rachel Miller doubled to right center. McVicker followed with an RBI groundout to plate Eichorn and cut into the early deficit.

Eichorn finished 2-for-3 with a double, Miller added a double and a walk, and Biederman singled in the second. Addison Yoder started in the circle before giving way to Mekulsia and Berentz in relief.
