Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Luther lifts MLAX on Senior Day

WESTERVILLE – Fueled by a comeback and some late heroics, the Otterbein University men's lacrosse team earned a much-needed 13-12 win over Muskingum University. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the OAC and sit in good shape in the conference standings.

Prior to the game, the Cardinals celebrated its senior class of Marcus Wright, Zach Mulligan, Jacob Snyder and Theron Cable

Sophomore Max Luther led all players with a five goal, one assist effort, including the game-winning goal with 2:10 to play. Jack Regruth scored a hat trick and Andrew Lewis dished out three assists in the win.

Otterbein got on the board first when Lewis found Mulligan for an early Cardinal goal, but Muskingum answered with a 6-0 run to close out the quarter. Trailing 6-1, Otterbein scored two quick goals in the second quarter, thanks to Luther and Regruth to cut the deficit in half. The Muskies immediately halted the momentum with a pair of goals to regain a five-goal advantage.

On a man-up opportunity, Regruth swung the momentum back in favor of Otterbein with a goal just over six minutes before halftime. The junior netted a second goal and was followed by another from Luther to bring the Cardinals within one. A late Muskie goal saw the visitors take a 9-7 lead into the break.

Muskingum took a 12-10 lead with 12:48 to play before Otterbein scored the final three goals of the contest to secure the comeback victory. Gabe Thayer brought Otterbein to within a goal and Luther scored the game-tying goal on an assist from Lewis with just under seven minutes remaining. With 3:16 on the clock, Nick Miller forced a Muskie turnover and Thayer scooped up the ground ball. Just over a minute later, Luther buried the game-winner on a shot with little space to give Otterbein the lead.

Muskingum had one final chance in the last minute, but junior goalie Zach Courie notched a big save to hand the Cardinals a Senior Day win. Courie made 15 saves on the day, tallied five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.

Shane Kleman was 8 of 17 from the X and picked up three ground balls. As a team, Otterbein was 20 of 24 on the clear.

On Wednesday, the Cardinals wrap up the regular season with a 7 p.m. home game against Marietta College.
