WESTERVILLE, Ohio – A dominant second-half performance helped the Otterbein University women's lacrosse team rally for a 15-11 win over Marietta College on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 9-3 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.
Prior to the game, Otterbein honored seniors Gillian Roeder, Ava Robey, and Madison Sams in a pregame ceremony.
Junior Alyssa Glenn led the way with a season-high five goals, while freshman Madi McIntosh added three goals and one assist. Freshmen Dakota Klein and Karley Gerst each scored twice, and Robey finished with one goal and four assists in her senior night performance.
Marietta controlled much of the first half and took a 6-3 lead into the break after outscoring the Cardinals 4-2 in the second quarter.
Otterbein wasted no time shifting the momentum coming out of halftime. The Cardinals opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals to pull within one and quickly put pressure on the visitors. Marietta answered with two goals to briefly extend its lead, but Otterbein responded with a six-goal run midway through the quarter to take control.
Roeder sparked the stretch with a goal before Glenn scored back-to-back, followed by McIntosh. Klein capped the run with two goals as the Cardinals surged in front.
Otterbein totaled eight goals in the quarter, flipping the game entirely and taking an 11-8 lead into the final period.
The Cardinals continued to build in the fourth, with Gerst converting a man-up opportunity before Robey and Glenn added late goals to seal the win.
Defensively, Otterbein forced 16 turnovers and recorded 12 caused turnovers, with Glenn contributing four. Freshman Leela Henry controlled the draw circle with seven draw controls to help fuel the second-half surge.
Otterbein will return to action Saturday, April 11, hosting Baldwin Wallace at 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
