WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The (RV) Otterbein volleyball team grabbed a win on Saturday morning against Trine University in the last day of the Pam Briggs Classic. After falling 25-23 in the first set, the Cardinals fought back to win the next three sets (25-19, 28-26, 25-21).
In the first set, the Thunder led almost the entirety of the set, before eventually reigning victorious, also outswinging the Cardinals with a team hitting percentage of .233. Otterbein responded in the second set by going on a late run, scoring the final three points. Emerson Baum was vital in that stretch, adding a kill and an ace to solidify the set win.
In set three, the teams went into extra points in a gritty fight, with Trine being at set point before a kill from Chandler Crowell tied the set, 25-25. The Thunder again got to set point, but the Cardinals calmly tied the score once more, thanks to another Crowell kill. A kill from Baum followed by an attacking error from Trine secured the set three win for Otterbein, 28-26.
Set four started off strong for the Cardinals, keeping Trine at a distance through the majority of the set. A service error from Trine sealed the win for Otterbein, improving to 6-0 on the season.
Baum led the way offensively against the Thunder, slamming 14 kills with an impressive .333 hitting percentage. Crowell was right behind with 11 kills and also added nine digs. Senior Emma Steiger was at the forefront with digs for the Cardinals, totaling 10 against the Thunder. Senior Elise Adelman added eight aces, tying her career-high, and 30 assists to the Otterbein arsenal.
Otterbein will make their way to Gambier, Ohio on Tuesday to take on Kenyon College at 7 p.m.
