Cardinals fall in Rhine River Cup

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Under the lights in the 34th rendition of the Rhine River Cup, the Otterbein University football team faltered to Heidelberg University, 38-0.

Prior to the game, the teams honored former OAC commissioner, Tim Gleason, who passed away this summer. Gleason was a constant presence at the Rhine River Cup and a staple across the league.

Heidelberg was 5 of 6 in red zone scores. The Cardinals were 0 for 3 inside the red zone, as costly turnovers prevented Otterbein from getting on the board. Otterbein was limited to converting 4 of 14 third down opportunities. Otterbein hung with the Berg in the first half, with the visitors taking a 14-0 lead into the break. A 14-point third quarter from Heidelberg proved to shift the momentum fully in favor of the Student Princes.

Kace Kinnamon was 8 of 11, throwing for 109 yards – his second-straight game reaching the century mark. Freshman Daniel Shaffer led the receivers with six catches for 79 yards. Defensively, the Cardinals were led by Kaden Bruner's 10 tackles. Cayden Lassiter and Eli Helton added seven tackles apiece in the loss.

Senior Cullen Dent finished the night with a pair of sacks, accounting for 15 yards. Qa'id Wilson added 1.5 TFL for Otterbein.

The Cardinals head to Wilmington College next Saturday for another night game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. against the Quakers.
