Otterbein graduate Mark Walton returns to his alma mater and begins his first season as an assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.
Walton enjoyed a four-year career for the Cardinals spanning 2013-16, before receiving a bachelor of science degree in education along with a concentration as an intervention specialist. He played catcher for Otterbein before moving to third base as a senior, when he earned first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors.
The Cardinals played to a 32-11 record during the spring of his senior year, winning the OAC regular-season title and notching the most wins (31) in program history prior to the postseason.
Walton went on to spend two years as a graduate assistant at OAC school Muskingum, coaching the Muskie hitters, catchers, infielders and coordinating the strength and conditioning program. He then served as an assistant coach at Marietta for the 2018-19 season.
A native of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Walton was a three-sport athlete at Upper Sandusky High School playing baseball, basketball and soccer. He also now holds a master’s degree in adult education.
