Andy Fries

Andy Fries, 31, rejoined the football staff in full-time capacity during the spring of 2015 and recently finished his third season as the special teams coordinator and offensive line coach.

Fries, who served as a graduate assistant at Otterbein from 2010 to 2012, returned to his alma mater after stints at Lakeland College (2012-13) and Wilmington College (2013-15).

In recent years, Fries has teamed with offensive coordinator Dan Damico to help the Cardinals average 30 points per game in 2016, followed by nearly 35 per outing last fall. Fries coached and help develop of a pair of All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) lineman in tackle Case Troyer and center Jacob Schafer.

A four-year letterman and three-year starter while at Otterbein from 2005-2008, Fries was elected captain his senior year and helped the Cards set records for most wins (9) and make the NCAA playoffs for the only time in school history.  A 2x first team All-OAC selection, he was named the OAC’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2008 and was subsequently a third team All-American selection by D3football.com.

Fries earned his bachelor’s degree in communications in 2009, and his master’s degree in teaching in 2012. He and his wife, Marinda, a 2010 graduate of Otterbein, live on the north end of Columbus with their young daughter, Maddie (1).
