Former Ohio Dominican star Billy Eakins enters his second year with the Otterbein football staff in 2024, helping coach the defensive backs while also providing strength and conditioning guidance.
During his first season, the secondary unit ranked fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference in both passing yards allowed per game (199.7) and total interceptions (13).
Eakins, a 2016 graduate of nearby ODU, earned a communications degree (minor in sports media) while delivering a standout career on the gridiron. He played in five seasons for the Panthers, returning for an extra year of eligibility after suffering an injury as a true senior.
The Pickerington native became a 2x All-American as a shutdown cornerback, and was twice a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award that recognizes the best defensive player in small-college football. To this day, he remains Ohio Dominican’s all-time leader in career interceptions (14) and pass breakups (29).
Eakins was also a 3x All-GLIAC selection during his run, where Ohio Dominican went undefeated in the 2013 regular season and then advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2014.
Eakins helped lead Pickerington Central High School to the OHSAA state championship game as a senior, and more recently gained a year of coaching experience at the level with Northland HS during the COVID year of 2020.
He is also a personal trainer/sports performance coach and is working toward his master’s degree in sport psychology from Pennsylvania Western.
Eakins and his girlfriend (Maria) live in Dublin with their young son, Cairo.
