Long-time high school and collegiate coach Mike Goebbel enters his second stint as an assistant at Otterbein, once again helping oversee the outside linebackers. He previously spent 2018-19 on staff.

Goebbell returned to coaching after taking the 2016 and 2017 seasons off. Prior to that, he served as defensive coordinator at Westland High School (2014-15) following a three-year stretch coaching tight ends at nearby Ohio Dominican.

Goebbel has more than 40 years of coaching experience under his belt, including 14Â as a head coach at the high school level. His path includes stints at Cardington-Lincoln, Hilliard and Marion Harding High Schools before working as an assistant at both Dublin Coffman High School and Ohio Wesleyan University.
After serving multiple years as the offensive coordinator at Thomas Worthington High School, Goebbel spent three seasons as a scout for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League. He then transitioned to be the head coach at Cape Coral High School in Florida.
A 1974 graduate of Ohio University, Goebel went on to earn a master’s degree from Ohio State in 1976 after working two seasons as a graduate assistant under Woody Hayes.
Coaching and athletic administration runs in the Goebbel family as all three of his sons (Todd, Kyle and Aaron )are involved in one or the other. Todd is co-offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Marshall University, Kyle coaches football at Worthington Kilbourne High School and Aaron is the associate athletic director at Marshall.
Goebbel grew up in Columbus and attended Eastmoor High School. He and his wife, Karen, who reside in Westerville.
