The 2006 Otterbein baseball team turned in a remarkable 34-16 overall record and reigned supreme in the Ohio Athletic Conference, capturing both the Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Dominating league play with a 16-2 mark, the Cardinals advanced all the way to the NCAA Regional Final, solidifying their place among the program’s most successful squads.

Under the leadership of OAC Coach of the Year George Powell, Otterbein showcased its depth and talent with seven All-OAC honorees. Earning First Team recognition were Ben Titus, Dan Remenowsky, and Doug Stevens, while Chris Martin, Pat Connor, and Chris Kovanda secured Second Team honors. Jerry Tulga rounded out the group as an Honorable Mention selection in the outfield. Tulga led the Cardinals offensively with a stellar .420 batting average over 39 games. Titus, the everyday shortstop, appeared in 48 contests and hit .373 with 33 RBI, while Connor drove in a team-high 39 runs. Power threat Bobby Wright paced the lineup with six home runs.

On the mound, Otterbein’s pitching staff set a new standard, posting a 3.76 ERA, a school record that stood for a decade. Sophomore standout Dan Remenowsky, named OAC Pitcher of the Year, anchored the rotation with an impressive 1.94 ERA over 79 innings, striking out 94 batters while issuing only 21 walks. He threw eight complete games, while Stevens added seven, forming one of the most dominant one-two punches in program history.

Defensively, the Cardinals were equally sharp, ranking ninth nationally with a .967 fielding percentage. Entering the following season, Otterbein’s excellence earned them the distinction of being the Preseason No. 1 ranked team in the nation, a testament to the legacy and impact of this championship squad.
