Novak Gives #12 Otterbein Victory at B-W, Scores Program's 600th Goal

Written Oct. 10, 2009 by Adam Prescott

BEREA, OHIO - Sophomore forward Adrienne Novak scored the game's lone goal, and her first of the season, early in the second half as the 12th-ranked Otterbein women's soccer team grabbed a 1-0 victory Saturday evening at Baldwin-Wallace.

The score was also the 600th in program history. Kate Weale notched the 500th goal back in 2007 on a free kick at Allegheny.

The win moves Otterbein to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while the loss drops B-W to 5-7-2 and 1-2 in league play.

After a scoreless first half, Novak took a pass from senior co-captain Carly Dent towards the right side of the box and fired it into the back of the net from 12 yards out for what would be the eventual game-winner.

The score came just six minutes into the second stanza at the 51:19 mark, and Dent tallied her fourth assist of the season on the play.

The Cardinal defense limited the Jackets to just seven shots in the contest en route to recording its league-leading ninth shutout of the season.

OC held a 13-7 overall edge in shots and took nine corner kicks compared to just one for B-W.

Meagan McLaughlin tallied seven stops in goal for Baldwin-Wallace while OC keeper Tara Carter had three saves.

The team next returns home to host Mount Union on Tuesday, with game time slated for 4 p.m.

Otterbein earned a 1-0 victory in last year's matchup with Mount Union, as Novak tallied the game-winner with seven seconds left in the first half.
