WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein women’s volleyball team notched a pair of conference victories this past weekend, defeating Capital and Westminster Saturday afternoon at the Crusaders Tri-Match.
Otterbein opened the afternoon by defeating Capital in a tough five-game match, winning the first two games as well as the last.
After taking the first two games by scores of 25-18 and 25-17, the team dropped a long third game, 31-29.
OC then fell in game four, but responded with a 15-7 triumph in game five to claim victory. Capital entered the contest with a 5-1 mark in league play.
Freshman outside hitter Kelly Montgomery led Otterbein’s attack with 15 kills, hitting .323 for the match. She also recorded six block assists.
Sophomore libero Lindsey Russell, the OAC’s leader in digs, tallied 34 over the five-game span.
The win improved the Cards to 3-4 in the OAC, good enough to sit in a tie for fifth.
The second matchup pitted Otterbein against Westminster, with the Cards prevailing in four games.
After dropping the second set, the team regrouped and won the ensuing two en route to the victory.
Freshman middle hitter Ally Nagle led the squad with 10 kills, registering a .529 hitting percentage. Junior right-side hitter Rayna Coleman tallied seven kills to go along with a .417 hitting-percentage.
The team, which now holds a 21-8 overall record, returns to action Tuesday evening when they host league-leading Heidelberg. Starting time from the Rike Center is slated for 7 p.m.
