Written Sep. 19, 2009 by Adam Prescott

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Otterbein improved its record to 6-1 Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory against Carnegie Mellon (PA) at Clements Field. Four different Cardinals scored goals in the match.

Otterbein took an early 1-0 lead when junior forward Lindsey Rudibaugh scored her third goal of the season when she took a pass from Cristen Herold and scooted it past the Tartan goalie in the eighth minute.

Carnegie Mellon answered, however, and tied the game at 1-1 in the 15th minute when Brianna Magill headed a ball into the back of the net in the middle of a clustered box after a corner kick.

Just 47 seconds later, senior midfielder Carly Dent took a long pass from Jenny Knox and put the Cards back on top at 2-1.

Senior midfielder Becky Bowser then scored her first goal since late October of 2007 when she took a cross from Adrienne Novak and found a way to maneuver the ball past a defender and the CMU keeper.

Otterbein took a 3-1 lead into halftime, out-shooting the Tartans 10-4 in the first 45 minutes.

Knox then converted her second penalty kick of the season in the 57th minute after a Tartan defender was called for a hand-ball in the box. The goal put Otterbein ahead 4-1 and concluded the scoring for the day.

Overall, the Cards held a 15-7 shot advantage, as well as a 6-2 edge on corner kicks.

Carnegie Mellon goalie Becca Gold recorded all three saves for her team in the second half, while Anya Rosen allowed the three scores and had no saves in the opening stanza.

Junior keeper Tara Carter stopped four shots between the posts for Otterbein, and freshman goalie Erin Hartzell recorded her first save as a Cardinal by playing the last 14:37 in goal, the first appearance of her career.

Otterbein will next host Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at Clements Field. Game-time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
