ADA, OHIO – #7 Otterbein suffered a 3-0 loss to 17th ranked Calvin (MI) Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Ohio Northern Classic in Ada, Ohio.
Otterbein began with a few chances, and nearly scored when a shot from sophomore forward Sarah Sharbaugh ricocheted off the post. The Cards out-shot the Knights 3-0 in the first 23 minutes.
Calvin, however, got on the board first when Carly Prins scored from 20 yards out on the left side in the 24th minute, giving her team a 1-0 advantage.
The Knights quickly struck again just two minutes later and took a 2-0 advantage when Jillian Honderd found the back of the net off a free ball at the 26:41 mark.
Calvin kept its foot on the accelerator and extended the lead to 3-0 at the 41:56 mark when Honderd tallied her second goal of the match, this time on a breakaway off a deflection.
The Knights took a 3-0 edge into halftime.
Both teams battled in the second half, but neither was able to produce any scores as Calvin earned the three-goal victory.
The Cards held a 10-8 shot advantage and also attempted one more corner kick (5-4).
Kayla Stulzer stopped three shots between the posts for Calvin while Otterbein goalie Tara Carter had two saves.
OC will play Kalamzoo (MI) tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
