ADA, OHIO – The Otterbein women’s soccer team bounced back after losing on the opening day of the Ohio Northern Classic to defeat Kalamazoo (MI) by a score of 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Ada.
Junior midfielder Cristen Herold gave the seventh-ranked Cardinals an early 1-0 lead when she corralled a loose ball off a blocked shot in the tenth minute and scored her second goal of the young season.
Junior forward Lindsey Rudibaugh, the OAC’s second-leading scorer a season ago, extended the lead to 2-0 when she took a pass from defender Laura Vasbinder and scored on a breakaway at the 23:35 mark.
Otterbein would take a 2-0 lead into the break after outshooting Kalamazoo 12-2 in the first half.
Sophomore forward Adrienne Novak then had a shot bounce off the post in the 62nd minute, but fellow sophomore Sarah Sharbaugh was there to head the ball into the back of the net to put Otterbein up 3-0 and conclude the scoring for the match.
The Cards held a 20-8 shot advantage as well as a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Kalamazo’s Courtney McCoy and OC’s Tara Carter each stopped three shots between the posts.
Otterbein will next travel to participate in the St, Mary’s (IN) Tournament next weekend, opening with host St. Mary’s at 4 p.m. on Friday.
