TIFFIN, OHIO – Otterbein dropped an 88-76 decision at Heidelberg Wednesday evening.
The loss puts the Cardinals at 4-14 on the season, 2-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Heidelberg moves to 12-6 overall, 8-3 in league play.
Otterbein opened strong, taking a 17-12 lead at the 13:19 mark after a layup from senior Cory Ratai.
The Student Princes countered with a quick 7-0 run and eventually extended the lead to 47-31 by halftime.
Otterbein continued to battle in the second half, but the closes they would get would be 12 points when Ratai finished a layup with 19 seconds to play.
Ratai and junior Nathan Edick tied for a game-high 17 points, as the two combined to shoot 12-of-20 from the floor. Edick made 5-of-7 from long range.
Senior Brian Pollock contributed 15 points, while Ian Gardner chipped in ten.
Josh Calver and Jim Smalley scored 17 and 16, respectively, to lead a Heidelberg team that shot .500 for the contest.
Otterbein returns home to host Capital in a men’s and women’s double-header Saturday in Westerville. Tip-off from the Rike Center is slated for 7:30 p.m.
