WESTERVILLE, OHIO—
Otterbein used a second-half surge to overpower cross-town rival Capital 86-83 Saturday evening in an Ohio Athletic Conference showdown.
Capital jumped out to 16-5 lead with 15:43 left in the first half before the Cardinals clawed back to take the lead. However, Crusaders tied up the score at 42 heading into halftime.
Again the Crusaders jumped ahead of the Cardinals, as Capital took a 68-59 lead with 12 minutes left before the score was pulled even at the 7-minute mark.
Trailing 84-83 with 37 seconds left, the Crusaders turned the ball over leading to two free throws for the Cardinals. Capital got the ball back with 17 seconds, but missed a three-point attempt as time expired.
Otterbein improves to 5-14 overall and 3-9 in the OAC, while Capital drops to 11-8 overall and 6-6 in the league.
The Cardinals broke the school record for most three-pointers made in a game with 15, eclipsing the former mark of 13.
Senior guard Brian Pollock contributed a career-high 7 three-pointers, while scoring a game-high 29 points and adding 4 rebounds.
Junior guard Nathan Edick had a career-high 17 points, while going 5-for-7 from behind the arc. Junior guard Ian Gardner finished with 16 points.
The Crusaders were led by guard DJ Frazier who finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Otterbein next travels to Wilmington Wednesday for a league-contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
