UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO - Otterbein (1-9, 0-1 OAC) fell 2-0 at John Carroll (7-4, 1-0 OAC) Saturday afternoon in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The Blue Streaks held a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half, but were unable to score as Otterbein keeper Alex Kamphaus came up with five saves over the first 45 minutes.
Junior Kurt Gallant had a shot on goal for the Cardinals in the last five minutes of the opening half, but the ball was corralled by the Blue Streak goalie to preserve the scoreless tie.
JCU took a 1-0 adavantage in the 70th minute when Jeff Kosek found the back of the net off an assist from Wycliffe Odhiambo.
Otterbein continued to battle, but was not able to muster a goal over the remaining minutes.
The Streaks tacked on a late insurance goal in the final seconds when Dave Hickey put a shot away off a ball from Kosek.
Carroll held a 20-8 advantage in shots, as well as a 9-3 edge on corner kicks.
Kamphaus tallied six saves for the Cardinals while Carl Constracier had four for the Blue Streaks.
Otterbein returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 6, hosting Heidelberg at Clements Field. Starting time is set for 4 p.m.
