DELAWARE, OHIO - Otterbein volleyball moved to 22-5 on the season by splitting a pair of matches at the Ohio Wesleyan tri-match Saturday, falling to Hiram in five sets before turning back Ohio Wesleyan in four.
The team narrowly took game one from Hiram (21-9) by a score of 25-23, but dropped game two 25-18.
Otterbein regrouped and easily took game three 25-14, but couldn't put away the Terriers in game four, falling 25-19.
The Cardinals then suffered a slim 15-13 loss in game five to take just their fifth loss this season. It was just the second time all season the team has been pushed to a fifth game, as Heidelberg squeaked out a 15-13 fifth-set victory over the Crads earlier this season.
Four players tallied double-digit kills in the match for Otterbein.
The Cards rebounded later in the evening with a four-set triumph over host Ohio Wesleyan, taking the first two sets by marks of 25-23 and 27-25.
The Bishops refused to lay down, and bounced back to steal game three 2624, before Otterbein regrouped and took the final set 25-14.
Sophomore Kelly Montgomery blasted 16 kills in the match and finished with a .343 hitting-percentage, while sophomore outside-hitter Michelle Gernert came up with a career-high 18 digs.
The team resumes conference action Tuesday evening, returning home to host Wilmington at 7 p.m. It will be senior night for outside-hitter Rayna Coleman.
Otterbein will then travel to OAC rival Mount Union for a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 30, opening against the fourth-place Purple Raiders before taking on regional foe Case-Western.
