WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Second-seeded Otterbein (26-5) earned a three set victory over seventh-seeded Capital in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday evening in the Rike Center.
The win pushes the Cards into a semi-final match Friday evening, 5 p.m., against #3 seed Ohio Northern. The Polar Bears were winners in four sets Tuesday over John Carroll. The match will be played at Heidelberg, the tournament's regular season champion and top seed.
The Cardinals flew out to a 12-1 lead, and went on to easily take set one by a mark of 25-11.
The Crusaders came out strong in set two and were tied at 9-9, but the Cardinals eventually took control and went on to a 25-16 victory.
Otterbein kept the momentum going into the third and final set, jumping out ahead early and playing to a 25-12 win.
The Cards had four players hit over .500 in the match, with senior Rayna Coleman blasting seven kills, and just one error, on nine attempts.
Sophomore Kelly Montgomery turned in a strong performance with ten kills, and just one error, on 17 attempts for a hitting percentage of .529.
Fellow sophomore Kristen Bennett, seven kills on 13 attemps, and freshman Liz Palmer, five kills on eight attempts, each contributed nicely as well.
Sophomore Ally Nagle, the leading hitter in the conference, registered eight kills and three errors on 19 total attacks (.263).
Sophomore setter Lydia Wynkoop dished out 21 assists while junior libero Lindsey Russell only needed to make 12 digs on the night.
