#5 Otterbein Plays Denison to Scoreless Tie

Box Score

GRANVILLE, OHIO - The Otterbein women's soccer team, ranked fifth nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), battled Denison to a scoreless tie over 110 minutes Wednesday evening.

The Cards had a chance early on in the fifth minute when Adrienne Novak received a pass in the middle of the box, but the shot was saved by Denison keeper Andrea Karl.

Otterbein continued to control the first part of the opening half, but were unable to take advantage of a handful of corner kicks.

The Big Red held a slight possession advantage in the latter stages of the first half, but also came up empty as the Otterbein defense stood strong and goalkeeper Tara Carter made a key stop.

The contest would head to halftime locked at 0-0.

Novak saw a prime opportunity in the first 30 seconds of the second half, drawing out the Big Red keeper in the middle of the box. However, a shot on the ground went just wide left, keeping the game scoreless.

Denison's Kimmi Oshita saw a clean shot on goal during a small push in the 58th minute, but Carter was able to leap and make a punch save.

The Big Red also saw an opportunity in the 78th minute when a long shot bounced off the hands of Carter, but she was fortunately able to quickly recollect the ball before a charging Oshita arrived.

DU nearly won the game in the last minute of regulation, but a chip shot that found its way over the head of Carter skidded just wide right.

Otterbein controlled the majority of both overtime sessions, and had a few opportunities on corner kicks in the final minutes; but the contest would eventually end in a scoreless tie.

The Cards held a 16-9 advantage in shots, including a 7-5 edge on goal.

Carter tallied a season-best five saves while Karl came up with seven stops for Denison.

The team returns to action Sunday afternoon, hosting Case Western at Clements Field. First kick is slated for 2 p.m.
