WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Fifth-ranked Otterbein, now 5-0-1 on the season, earned a 2-0 victory over visiting Case Western Sunday afternoon at Clements Field.
Thr first half saw tough defense from both sides, and the contest would head to halftime in a scoreless tie. The Cards held a 3-0 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes.
Junior Adrienne Novak broke the tie in the 54th minute when she took a soft header from Molly Kroger in front of the net and buried it home for the 1-0 lead. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Sophomore Emily Bates then scored her first career goal in the 83rd minute after taking a pass up the middle from Novak and shooting it past the Case Western keeper, who had come charging out of the net.
The Cards were able to limit a few Spartan opportunities in the final minutes to preserve the shutout and the victory.
Otterbein held a 14-9 advantage in shots as well as a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. All nine of the Cardinals corners came in the second half.
The team returns to action Wednesday evening, traveling to take on Ohio Wesleyan. Starting time is slated for 5 p.m.
