Women's Soccer Defeats Colby Sawyer to Open Season

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK - Otterbein, ranked tenth nationally, opened its season with a 2-0 victory over Colby Sawyer (NH) Saturday on day one of the Nazareth Tournament.

The Cardinals put pressure on early, forcing Colby Sawyer goalkeeper Allie Piper to make four saves in the opening ten minutes of play. Otterbein nearly took an instant advantage when a shot from senior Rachel Degen deflected off the post.

Freshman Chelsea DeLay, making her collegiate debut, scored her first career goal in the 33rd minute to give the Cards a 1-0 lead, an advantage they would take into intermission.

Otterbein held a 14-0 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes as Piper needed to make nine saves.

The Cardinals continued to control the tempo in the second frame, and pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute when junior Adrienne Novak deposited a shot into the back of the net. Degen was credited with an assist on the play.

Senior Lindsey Rudibaugh nearly registered the team's third goal late in the 83rd minute, but saw her shot bounce off the cross bar. 

Otterbein held a commanding 31-1 shot advantage, and took 12 corner kicks compared to none for Coldy Sawyer.

The team plays Sunday afternoon against host Nazareth, with first kick slated for 2:30 p.m.
