ADA, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s basketball team upped its record to 9-9 on the season and 5-6 in Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 64-46 road victory over Ohio Northern University Wednesday evening.
The win breaks a sixth-place between the two teams in the league standings, dropping the Polar Bears to 7-11 on the season and 4-7 against conference opponents.
The game remained closed early, but the Cardinals eventually found some breathing room at 15-6 after a jumper in the paint from junior Mark Louks at the 9:45 mark.
The Otterbein defense limited the ONU attack to just three points over the next six minutes, and eventually opened up a 28-11 lead with four minute remaining in the first half after a layup from junior Chris Davis.
The Cards would take a 36-14 lead into halftime as Ohio Northern managed to shoot just 6-of-31 (.194) from the field over the opening 20 minutes.
Otterbein pushed its lead to 40-18 four minutes into the second stanza, and would go up by as many as 29 before winning 64-46.
Davis, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, tallied 19 points and ten rebounds while Max Van Meter scored 15.
Senior Nathan Edick buried four three-pointers to finish with 12 points while C.J. Julian came off the Otterbein bench to add eight points, seven boards, and a game-high four steals.
Scott Schnelle marked the only ONU player in double figures, scoring ten.
Otterbein shot .478 from the floor while limiting the Polar Bears to a 17-of-60 (.283) effort.
The team returns home to host league-leader Mariette College Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The Pioneers dealt the Cards a 72-52 loss earlier this season on Dec. 11.
