BEXLEY, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s basketball team (5-7, 1-4 OAC) suffered a 71-60 loss at cross-town rival Capital (9-3, 5-1 OAC) Wednesday evening at the Capital Center.
Scoring was at a premium early, as the Crusaders held a slim 11-10 lead after eight minutes of play.
The Cards countered and tied the game at 15-15, and trailed just 19-18 with nine minutes to play before the half.
Capital then embarked on an 11-1 run over the next five and a half minutes to take a 30-19 lead, and would head to intermission leading 37-27.
The Cards scored the first five points of the second stanza to trail just 37-37, and fought to go ahead at 52-50 after two free-throws from sophomore Zach Bakenhaster.
Capital, however, responded moments later and opened a six point lead, at 62-56, with just under three minutes to play.
Otterbein wouldn’t get any closer than six the remainder of the way en route to the defeat.
Junior Chris Davis led Otterbein with 16 points and 14 rebounds, marking his seventh-straight double-double this season. Freshman Max Van Meter and junior Brice Rausch added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Scott Robertson led Capital with a game-high 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds, and Tyler Munro added 16 points.
Otterbein next travels to take on Muskingum University Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from New Concord is slated for 4 p.m.
