Davis Leads Way as Cards Topple Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s basketball team improved to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play with a 58-48 victory at Muskingum University (6-8, 2-5 OAC) Saturday afternoon.

Junior center Chris Davis turned in a monster effort with 26 points and 19 rebounds, makring his eighth consecutive double-double.

The contest saw a low-scoring first half, as the game was tied at 17-17 before both teams combined to score just eight points over the final 8:17. The Cards would lead 23-19 at the break.

Otterbein found its groove at the beginning of the second half, opening a 34-23 lead after the first four minutes, and opened a 45-30 lead with 12:04 remaining after two Davis free throws.

Muskingum refused to go away and score the next seven points to draw within eight, but the Cards stayed put and pushed its margin up to 52-39.

The Muskies came back again, this time on a 9-0 run to claw within 52-48 as the game clock ticked under two minutes remaining.

However, Otterbein slowed the Muskie momentum with free-throws from Davis, Matt McCollister, and Zach Bakenhaster down the stretch en route to the victory.

Otterbein shot .430 from the field compared to just .320 for Muskingum, and the Cards held a 42-28 edge on the glass.

Bakenhaster complimented Davis down low with ten points and seven caroms, while Brice Rausch and Max Van Meter each scored six.

Kyle Clinedinst and Seth Howard led Muskingum with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Cards stay on the road in OAC action Wednesday evening, traveling to take on Heidelberg University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
