WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Freshman Jared Pulliam notched his first-career goal as the Otterbein University men’s soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Muskingum University Saturday afternoon at Clements Field.
The win improves Otterbein to 4-9-2 on the season and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the loss brings Muskingum to 7-9-1 this fall and 2-4-1 in league play.
The Cardinals now sit just a half-game out of sixth-place in the league standings entering the final week of the regular season. The top six teams will qualify for the conference’s postseason tournament.
Pulliam scored the difference-maker in the 27th-minute, finding his way to the ball after a Muskie player headed out an incoming Otterbein corner-kick and rocketing a shot into the upper-left portion of the goal.
The Cardinals defense would hold steady in the second half, fighting off multiple Muskingum attacks to preserve the shutout.
The Muskies finished with a 12-11 shot-advantage, while the Cards had a slim 6-5 edge on corner kicks.
Sophomore Kyle Ripma was forced to make just one save in between the posts for Otterbein while Muskie goalkeeper Hunter Huffman made four.
Otterbein next travels to take on Wilmington College Tuesday evening, with starting time set for 7 p.m.
