WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Senior Adrienne Novak scored two goals as the Otterbein University women’s soccer team defeated Muskingum University 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Clements Field.

The victory helps improve Otterbein to 8-5-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the loss takes the Muskies to 5-12 this fall, 1-6 in league play.

Otterbein now sits in a second-place tie in the OAC standings with Capital University entering the final week of the regular season.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when sophomore Chelsea DeLay sent a ball into the box and a Muskie defender accidentally kicked it into her own net.

Otterbein saw a handful of other opportunities in the opening half but eventually went to halftime with just the 1-0 lead.

Novak extended the Cardinal lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute, taking a pass from junior Molly Newhouse near the top of the box before seeing her shot deflect off the hands of the Muskingum goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Novak added to the Otterbein advantage nine minutes later, scoring on a free kick from just outside the box. It was her 20th-career goal.

The Cards ended the match with a 23-2 shot advantage and also held an 11-2 edge on corner kicks.

Sara Poling tallied nine saves in goal for Muskingum while Otterbein keeper Melissa Zang was not forced to make any.

Otterbein returns to action Wednesday evening, traveling to take on Wilmington College. Starting time is slated for 7 p.m.
