Russell, Willke Enjoy Victory on Senior Night

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein women’s volleyball team defeated Wilmington College in three sets Tuesday evening in the Rike Center, pushing its winning-streak to 13 matches.

The victory, coming by scores of 25-9, 25-10, 25-19, improves Otterbein to 24-4 this season and 7-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. The loss drops the Quakers to 11-17 overall and 1-7 against league opponents.

Seniors Lindsey Russell and Renee Willke were honored prior to the match as part of “Senior Night.” The two have helped captain the team to its three-best seasons in school history since 2009, going 74-20 in the span.

Junior Ally Nagle and freshman Tabatha Piper led the way offensively, tallying eight and six kills respectively. Piper also dished out a match-best 34 assists from her setter position.

Sophomores Liz Palmer and Kelsey Berrien, and freshman Taylor Savage all chipped in five kills.

Russell picked up 26 digs and now sits just seven shy of fourth on the OAC’s all-time list. Willke enjoyed a fun and unique instance during the match, moving up from her usual defensive position at one point to attempt a career-high nine attacks.

The Cardinal defense limited Wilmington to a -.012 hitting percentage for the match. Chelcey Lyons led the Quakers with six kills while Amy McClelland had 15 assists.

The Cardinals conclude the regular season with a crucial match at the University of Mount Union Saturday afternoon. Both teams currently sit in a tie for second-place in the conference standings.
