WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss to the University of Mount Union Saturday afternoon, eliminating the team from OAC Tournament contention.
The loss ends Otterbein’s season at 5-10-2 overall and 3-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the win elevates Mount to 9-7-2 this fall and 4-3-2 in league play.
Both teams played near even in the opening half, but the Raiders tallied the difference-maker with just 24 seconds remaining before intermission when Kevin Cindric collected a loose ball near the top of the box and finished the shot home.
Otterbein senior Kurt Gallant saw a few chances early in the second half, but none found their way past Mount Union goalkeeper Jon Critell.
The Cards continued to battle and went down a player after a red card, but nearly evened the game in the 81st minute when Seth Holland shot went just wide.
Otterbein saw another opportunity with a free kick late in the 87th minute, but a header attempt by freshman Jared Pulliam sailed wide.
Mount Union held a 15-12 shot advantage while both teams attempted nine corner kicks.
Critell had two saves for the Raiders while Otterbein keeper Kyle Ripma collected six.
