TIFFIN, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s soccer team improved to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening with a 5-0 victory at Heidelberg University.
The victory elevates the Cardinals to 5-4-1 on the season, while the loss brings the Student Princes down to 3-7-1 this fall, 0-2 in OAC play.
Junior Jessica Yaney put Otterbein on the scoreboard early, nailing a shot from 20 yards out just 5:10 into the game.
Sophomore Morgan Hendrickson tallied her third goal of the season just before halftime, and senior Adrienne Novak extended the Cardinal lead to 3-0 in the 62
nd minute.
Freshman Kylee Tuchfarber and sophomore Shelby Smith each tallied their first-career goals as the second half played on. Tuchfarber’s came in the 74
th minute off a corner kick and Smith would find the back of the net just two minutes later off an assist from Molly Kroger.
The Cardinals held a comfortable 21-5 shot advantage and dominated the corner kick comparison at 14-2.
Molly Schriber and Brittany Labry combined for six saves in goal for Heidelberg, while Otterbein goalkeeper Melissa Zang was forced to make just one in 79 minutes before giving way to Sarah Uhlenbrock.
Zang has now compiled a scoreless streak of 369 minutes since taking over the full-time duties in goal on Sept. 21.
The Cards remain on the road to finish up the week, traveling to play Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
