BEREA, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s soccer team moved to 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday, using a first-half goal from junior Emily Bates and defeating Baldwin-Wallace College 1-0.
The win moves Otterbein to 6-4-1 on the season while the loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 8-5 overall, 1-2 in league play.
The Cardinal goal came in the 22
nd minute, when Bates capitalized on an Otterbein’s third corner kick of the match. Freshman Ali Stone was credited with the assist, marking her first collegiate point.
Otterbein would limit the Baldwin-Wallace chances in the second half and preserve the 1-0 victory.
The Cards held a 10-7 shot advantage and took 11 corners compared to just three for B-W.
Otterbein freshman goalkeeper Melissa Zang and Yellow Jacket goalie Gabrielle Bodo each came up with five saves in goal.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, Oct. 12, hosting 21st-ranked Ohio Northern University (9-1-2, 3-0 OAC) at Clements Field. Starting time is set for 4 p.m.
Otterbein and ONU have finished first and second, respectively, in the OAC standings each of the past three seasons.
