WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s volleyball team, seeded second, turned back seventh-seeded Marietta College in three sets Tuesday evening in the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Cardinals, 26-4 overall, advance to play No. 3 seed Mount Union Friday evening at 5 p.m. in Tiffin, Ohio. Top-seeded and host Heidelberg will square off against four-seed Baldwin-Wallace in the other semifinal match at 7 p.m.
Otterbein and Mount Union have split their two meetings this season. The Raiders picked up a four-set victory at the Hiram Tournament on Sept. 17 while the Cards notched a three-set victory at Mount this past Saturday.
Otterbein opened he match sluggish, falling behind 10-5 before coming alive to take a 13-12 lead. The Cards would eventually play to a 25-21 first-set victory.
Otterbein would carry over the momentum to take sets two and three by counts of 25-15 and 25-13, respectively.
Otterbein junior Ally Nagle, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, continued her impressive play by recording 14 kills and only two errors on 24 chances. She now has 990 for her career.
Four other Cardinals tallied six or more kills, including eight from freshman Kendel Kellogg. Freshman setter Tabatha Piper handed out 39 assists while Emily Caldwell chipped in four service aces.
Page DeVriendt led Marietta with eight kills while Laura Mauer registered 21 assists.
The Cards hit .435 for the match compared to just .200 for the Pioneers.
