WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team continued its hot start to the season Wednesday evening, improving to 5-0 with a 60-45 victory over visiting Oberlin College (2-3) in the Rike Center.
The Yeowomen took an early 8-2 lead, but the Cardinals would get a spark from junior Hannah Day off the bench to close the half on a 29-6 run and take a 31-14 edge into halftime. Day shot 5 of 9 to finishing the opening half with 13 points.
Otterbein scored the first six points of the second half and eventually assumed a 50-25 lead after a Kristi Kotterman jumper with 9:12 remaining.
Oberlin battled to within nine down the stretch but the Cards ultimately prevailed 60-45.
Day led all scorers with 20 points on 8 of 13 shooting, while senior Shea McCoy finished with nine.
Allison Gannon led Oberlin with 13 points while Kelly Warlich chipped in 11.
The Cardinals shot .414 from the field compared to .333 for the Yeowomen. Otterbein forced Oberlin into committing 28 turnovers while the Cards gave it away 20 times.
Otterbein returns to action Saturday afternoon, opening Ohio Athletic Conference action by hosting ninth-ranked Mount Union. Tip-off from the Rike Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
