SPRINGFIELD, OHIO – The Otterbein men’s soccer team battled Kenyon to a 1-1 draw Saturday before falling 1-0 to host Wittenberg Sunday evening at the Wittenberg Invitational.
Senor JP Lococo put Otterbein on top of Kenyon 1-0 in the first half of action Saturday, finding a cross from sophomore Evan Fallon in the 32nd minute and heading it home for his third goal of the season.
The Cards would take the 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Lords evened the score early in the second half on an Otterbein own goal after a ball deflected off a Cardinal defender.
Neither team would score over the remainder of the second half or overtime periods.
Sophomore Kyle Ripma came up with nine saves in between the posts for Otterbein, while Kenyon keeper James Smith tallied four.
The Lords out-shot Otterbein 19-11 and also held an 8-3 edge on corner kicks.
The team opened day two against host Wittenberg, and went into halftime scoreless after an opening half that saw just six shots.
Wittenberg midfielder Declan McBride would eventually notch the difference maker, converting a header attempt off a cross in the 80th minute to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 victory.
Ripma and Wittenberg goalkeeper Michael Lambeck each posted five saves in the match, with Wittenberg holding a 13-7 shot advantage.
Otterbein faces another tough test Wednesday afternoon, returning to Westerville for its home opener against 13th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan. Starting time from Clements Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
