Cardinals, Bishops Battle to 0-0 Draw

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein women’s soccer team played visiting Ohio Wesleyan to a scoreless tie over 110 minutes of action Wednesday at Clements Field.

The Cardinals controlled the tempo from the get-go, holding a 10-2 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of action.

Ohio Wesleyan saw a brief opportunity in the 55th minute, but Otterbein keeper Melissa Zang would save a Bishop shot before watching a follow-up attempt sail high.

Junior Molly Newhouse broke free in the 89th minute and saw nobody between her and the OWU keeper, but she would be pulled down by a Bishop defender.

The Cards played a free kick from the top of the box after the red card was given, but a shot from Emily Bates would go high over the cross bar.

The Bishops had potentially its best opportunity on the ensuing counter attack with less than 15 seconds to play in regulation, but a shot from Belle Madison was off the mark.

Newhouse saw two more opportunities to score in the overtime sessions, but was unable to convert on either as the game would end in the 0-0 tie.

The Cards held a wide 23-6 shot advantage while taking all seven of the game’s corner kicks.

Hannah Zacaharias stopped ten shots between the posts for OWU while Zang came up with two in her first full match in goal for Otterbein.

Otterbein remains at home to finish out the week, hosting Earlham (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
