WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup with Heidelberg University Wednesday evening, falling 76-60 in the Rike Center.
The loss puts the Cardinals at 5-9 on the season and 2-5 in conference play, while the victory moves Heidelberg to 5-9 overall and 3-4 against the league.
The Student Princes opened the game at a blistering pace, making 15 of their first 22 shots to open a 37-13 lead with six minutes to play before the half.
Otterbein rallied to score 12 of the game’s next 15 points, cutting the deficit to 15 before eventually going into halftime down 43-25.
The Berg’ shot .586 from the field over the first 20 minutes, including a 7 of 11 effort from beyond the arc. The Cardinals shot just .219 from the floor in the opening frame.
Otterbein attempted to fight its way back in the second half, closing to within 12, at 62-50, as the game-clock ticked under seven minutes.
However, Heidelberg would not allow them to claw any closer en route to the win.
Senior forward Chris Davis finished with a double-double, 18 points and 15 rebounds, while senior guard Brice Rausch and freshman guard RaNeal Ewing finished with 15 points apiece.
Dane Givner scored 17 points to pace five Heidelberg players in double figures. The Student Princes shot .564 for the contest compared to Otterbein's .339.
Otterbein finishes out the week on the road, traveling to take on Wilmington College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
