ADA, Ohio – The No. 21-ranked Ohio Northern University men’s soccer team proved too strong Wednesday afternoon, handing the Cardinals a 2-0 road loss in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.
Otterbein University moves to 4-7-1 overall as a result of the loss, falling to 0-3-1 against OAC schools in the process.
Ohio Northern grabbed an early 1-0 lead after Cameron Johnson dribbled down the left side in the eighth minute and eventually beat Otterbein goalkeeper Kyle Ripma in the box.
The Polar Bears tacked on a second goal less than five minutes later, using a penalty kick from Nate Bascom to double its margin.
The Cardinals played strong enough to keep Northern off the board in the second half, but the damage had been done as the Polar Bears improved to 13-2 overall, 4-0 in the OAC.
Ripma, the conference leader in saves per game, tallied a season-high 12 stops in the Cardinal net. Senior Mac Church recorded five stops of his own for the Polar Bears, who finished the match with a 28-9 advantage in shots.
Ohio Northern also took all seven of the game’s corner kicks.
Otterbein finishes out the week at home, hosting Heidelberg University as part of a men’s/women’s doubleheader. Fans are invited to attend the Athletics “Meet and Greet” by the tennis courts between contests.
